My bestie was in New York with me this past weekend and we had fun doing some touristy things, like walking across the Brooklyn Bridge! We tried to walk it Saturday, but it starting snowing after lunch and it was a little too much for us to handle for the entire stretch of the bridge. Instead we ended up visiting a few other sites, and squeezing in a little shopping throughout the day, of course. One of my girlfriends recently turned me on to & Other Stories, so when we walked by, I had to drag Melissa in. I’ve been trying not to buy new things that I won’t wear here right now in the cold, it’s been hard. Finding this dress was pretty exciting for me…long sleeves, sweater material, $30, SCORE! I knew exactly how I was going to wear it, and luckily enough, the next day was gorgeous…we crossed the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan, walked a strip of the High Line, Central Park, and Fifth Avenue down to Time Square. I don’t know if it’s just because there is nothing like this in Houston, but something about crossing the bridge, even though it’s just a walk, felt amazing. This has been my favorite “walk” here so far.
I believe everyone has trend limits. I think it’s fun to try everything…how else do you learn what works for you?!? One trend that’s been all over the blogosphere lately is flared demin, which I love to see but don’t necessarily love on me. My version of flare is more of an extreme bootcut (not quite 70’s) this is one trend I can’t go all the way with. I realize a lot of people are pulling away from skinny denim, but it’s still my favorite because I find it to be the most versatile. I can’t wear any shoe in my closet with flares, or even boyfriend jeans. So, a little flare every now and then, sure, but they def won’t be replacing my skinnies.
It’s hard to justify spending a lot of money on coats when you live in Houston, but last month I found this adorable short coat for 50% off. It was too good of a deal to pass up at only $25 so I decided to go outside my norm and added a little color to my coat selection. This is the only short coat I own, so it’s been getting thrown over all my casual outfits, it’s just so convenient. Since that means it’s mostly being worn against jeans and boots or sneakers, I’m really glad I didn’t get black. I might have go back and get the grey one too tho.
After a long and much needed vacation in Istanbul, I made it home late Sunday and I feel as though I’ve just started to recover. So, I apologize for the lack of posts and I promise I will get some Istanbul pics up soon. Today I’m sharing some pics Carlos and I took before heading off to the other side of the world. It’s so nice to live in a city with so many creative people. I can always find beautiful artwork on the streets to liven up my backgrounds…I’ve been dying to get in front of this wall for a while, so when we finally did it I went for black and white to not distract ;) And have you heard, stripes are always in! Hope you enjoy today’s not too simple work look.
I’ve been slowly pulling out my shorts again during the couple hours of warmth we’ve gotten on the weekends, and it’s been so comfy. This is what my casual side has been looking like; shorts, long sleeve T or light weight sweater with booties or slippers! What’s your go to easy comfort look?
