Marathon Training: 5 Weeks Out

run

I thought today I would take a minute to talk about running and weight loss instead of just complaining about how hard our run was. It was hard, it was super hard, but we did it. We made it through 19 whole miles yesterday! We’ve just got a 20 to go in two weeks then we start tapering. I can’t believe we’re here already. It’s kinda crazy. When we started this, of course, we thought, that’s a lot of running, we’ll def loose some weight…not the case. We learned pretty quickly into training that in order to keep up with the mileage we also had to keep up our food intake, carbs mostly. I realize that there are ways to do this and loose weight, but we wanted to enjoy the process, so we did not go to any extremes. We tried to keep things as healthy as possible and avoided binging after our long runs but a few pounds were still gained. We’ll work them off after the race, right now the most important thing to us is having the energy and fuel needed to make it through the entire race. I just wanted to share this in case anyone following along was thinking this might be an easy weight loss process. I didn’t want to give y’all the wrong idea. I feel amazing and I’m so happy that I’m doing this and the accomplishment will be something not many people can understand. But, Melissa and I have not lost any weight, we’ve just gained a lot of Badassness!
