This week had me seriously questioning whether or not I want to go through with this Marathon! Being gone a mere 10 days changed everything. All of a sudden it’s miserably humid and there are killer mosquitos everywhere just waiting to attack, and OMG what’s up with these allergies?!? I’m sure my body also needed this week to readjust to my non vacationing lifestyle of healthy eating and catching up on sleep, but man I’m ready to feel normal again! Melissa and I struggled through our 17 miler last Sunday, but we knew that was going to happen after missing the previous weeks long run. Also, it was our first and only afternoon long run. Long runs were definitely made to run in the mornings only! After that we tried really hard to prep all week so that this Sunday’s 18 miler wouldn’t be as difficult with good eating, plenty of sleep and short runs. It did not help much. We came well prepared for our 3+ hours of running with plenty of fluids and energy packs, bug spray, hats for the rain, and knowledge of restroom locations. But it still sucked. After we made it back to Melissa’s yesterday and I ripped off my shoes and socks and slowly and painfully made it to the floor to drink my chocolate milk, I couldn’t decide if I needed to laugh or cry, but all I could think was ‘why did we just do that, what’s wrong with us?’ Melissa very graciously reminded me that this was all my idea and she was just along for the ride, and I quickly reminded her that she was supposed to be the adult in this relationship who talks me out of stupid ideas!!! This is definitely the most difficult thing I’ve ever put my body through, but I’m learning what I’m made of and just how far I can push myself. Training for a Half Marathon is NOTHING like training for a Marathon. I know in the end it’s going to be worth it just tho, just to be able to say I did it! We’ve come pretty far already, I mean, it’s not like just anyone can say they’ve run 18 miles before, it’s a pretty big accomplishment and we’ve still got more to go. Luckily this coming Sunday we only have do 13 miles before we jump to 19 the following week. We will keep working on prepping for our long runs and hopefully my body will finish adjusting to Houston again soon…and stretching, I will do way more stretching. We’re almost there, mind over matter!
