Carlos and I decided to take a little road trip to Austin for Labor Day weekend to visit my sister and her new hubby. We went to two vineyards on Saturday. Solaro wasn’t my favorite, but for any of you who enjoy lighter tasting dry wines this place would be great. Personally I enjoy a fuller bodied wine with a little spice to it and I found an amazing bottle of Dolcetto that I couldn’t live without at our second stop. Bell Springs Winery was small inside but had a very homey feel to it. Our server was adorable and the prices were the best I’ve seen for tastings. 7 pours for $7 but free if you buy a bottle after! After our tastings we sat outside in rocking chairs and enjoyed a bottle and cheese plate. On our way back to the apartment we stopped in to the Texas Hill Country Olive Company. They sold local wines and had a fun little set up to try all their different oils and flavored balsamic vinegars with home made bread. Also that day they just happened to be grilling hotdogs and burgers outside so when we bought a bottle we got free tickets to eat, even that was delicious!
Sunday we got up early and drove to Wimberly to relax at Blue Hole. We should’ve known it was gonna be crazy packed, we didn’t get in :( instead of waiting around for people to leave we headed over to Wimberly Brewing Company. I’m not really a beer drinker but they had one beer “Drop the Rabbit” delicious, I think it was everyone’s favorite. The owner, Bruce Collie, played for the 49ers when they won the Super Bowl in ’88 & ’89. Bruce, his wife and 13 adorable home schooled kids ran this brewery and pizza joint. Bruce was awesome, and he sat there and talked to us forever, my sisters’ husband was in heaven. We all really enjoyed it, Our day definitely turned around here. We had two orders of the most delicious wings I’ve ever had in my life and the biggest pizza ever. If you’re ever in the Austin/Wimberly area this place is a Must visit!
