Guatemala

I’m about to overwhelm y’all with pictures, but after 11 days of traveling I came home with so many and I just want to share them all! Don’t worry I’m not actually going to share them all, but I am going to break this up into a few posts so that y’all can enjoy as much of my little adventure as possible…in small doses, well, maybe medium doses :)

The first two days of my trip were very touristy and full of shopping, which of course I love! We were up at 6am ready to leave Guatemala City for Chichicastenango (known for it’s huge and amazing market on Thursdays and Sundays) It took us a couple of hours to get there but we stopped for a delicious traditional breakfast at super cute restaurant, Katok. We also stopped to check out some old ruins on the way where we saw actors dressed as indigenous people for something they were filming. Once we made it to Chichi I shopped my little butt off. I had fun haggling, and I found so many awesome things (at great prices) that I had to bring home! I was absolutely loving the traditional dresses the women wore and I wanted one for myself, but I’m slow to make decisions when it comes to things like that so by dinner I still hadn’t found exactly what I was looking for. As luck would have it, this sweet lady caught us as we were leaving our dinner over looking Lake Atitlan and dressed me from head to toe in my perfect dress. We couldn’t say no after all that, so my mom bought me my outfit, and I love it!

We stayed the night at the cutest little bungalow style hotel La Fortuna right on the lake. I am obsessed with this place, I am definitely going back there. My mom found it through Airbnb and we could not have been any more impressed. We showered with rainwater under the stars, enjoyed evening coffee on our gorgeous patio, and hiked up the mountainside to watch the sunrise before our delicious outdoor breakfast, all while enjoying perfect weather. After enjoying our relaxing morning we did some more shopping in Panajachel where I found more goodies (that I had to try on before buying, I was the guinea pig for all the clothes) and ate a yummy mango with lime and salt. We had a late lunch of Pupusas (my favorite) then jumped in the car for our drive back to the city.

  2. This made my day!! Every time we go to lake Atitlan we stop at Katok! Hope you enjoyed the trip. Definitely makes me miss the familia.
